Pakistan Navy, in collaboration with China, has discovered significant gas reserves deep beneath the Arabian Sea during a joint survey carried out under the vision of the Chief of Naval Staff, a senior former naval officer revealed on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion of Pakistan Navy Day, observed on September 8 to honour the country’s maritime defenders, Rear Admiral (retd) Fawad Amin Baig said the survey confirmed the presence of vast gas deposits on Pakistan’s seabed.
“The country’s waters are not only rich in minerals but also home to a treasure trove of marine resources that could transform our economic outlook if tapped wisely,” he said, crediting the Pakistan Navy for playing a central role in the exploration process.
Baig underscored the need to attract investors to move forward, stressing that with adequate funding and modern technology, the newly identified reserves could be harnessed for national development.
At the same time, he cautioned against challenges, noting that “whenever Pakistan moves towards progress, hostile fifth-generation warfare tactics drive investors away.”
He expressed optimism that with the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the combined efforts of the military and political leadership, Pakistan is better positioned to implement a new defence and economic strategy aimed at ensuring stability and growth.
